Healthy Hydration

Exercising and flying are two activities that can zap our bodies' water levels and leave us dehydrated. It is can be difficult to know when dehydration is setting in but some early indicators include dry eyes, chapped skin, poor concentration, headaches, dizziness or lightheadedness, and the inability to think clearly.

It is important to replace the fluid lost in-flight and during workouts. When we fly our bodies respond not only to the change in altitude but also to the low moisture levels. Aircraft humidity levels are unnaturally low, between 5-10% which is less humid than the Sahara Desert. Drinking 8 oz of water every hour will help maintain a healthy hydration level in-flight. If you are dehydrated during a workout the most obvious signs will be dry mouth and muscle fatigue. While exercising, a good rule of thumb is to drink 8 oz of water every 20 minutes.

Staying hydrated and drinking plenty of pure water has significant health benefits. It will help maintain your energy levels, fight off colds and infections, improve your concentration and increase your physical performance, and support proper digestion.

ROAM Fitness chose to carry Voss Water in its gyms because of its purity. It comes from an artesian well in Southern Norway that is unfiltered and low in minerals, resulting in a smooth taste. Voss Water shares ROAM's sense of environmental responsibility and maintains 100% carbon neutrality. To celebrate our partnership, we've collaborated with Voss Water to do a giveaway of 10 day passes on their Facebook page. The giveaway is open to residents of the District of Columbia and Maryland who are 21+. To enter tell Voss Water why you would like to workout at the new ROAM Fitness facility at BWI in the comments section of the giveaway post. Voss water will randomly select 10 winners from entries submitted between February 17th noon EST and February 24th noon EST.
